Crystal Palace Football Club is on the cusp of a new era as John Textor has agreed to sell his stake in the club to Robert "Woody" Johnson, the American businessman and co-owner of the New York Jets. This move, announced on Monday, June 23, 2025, is subject to Premier League and Women's Super League approval, but is widely expected to proceed without issue. The sale, reportedly worth over £190 million, values Crystal Palace at more than £400 million.

The deal resolves a potential conflict of interest that threatened Crystal Palace's participation in the Europa League. Textor's Eagle Football Holdings also owns a significant stake in French side Lyon, who are also set to compete in the same competition. UEFA's multi-club ownership rules could have prevented Crystal Palace from entering the Europa League, but Textor's decision to sell his shares to Johnson removes this obstacle.

Crystal Palace secured their place in the Europa League after a remarkable FA Cup final victory over Manchester City. This marked a historic achievement for the club, and they are now eager to compete in Europe's second-tier competition for the first time. UEFA is expected to make a final decision on Crystal Palace's eligibility before the end of June.

Johnson has been in discussions with Textor and Crystal Palace chairman Steve Parish for several weeks. Parish is expected to continue running Palace in the same manner. Crystal Palace released a statement thanking John Textor for his contribution to the club over the past four years and wishing him success in the future. Textor initially invested in Palace in 2021.
