Real Madrid survived a stern test from Borussia Dortmund, securing a place in the semi-finals of the Club World Cup. The match, a rematch of the 2024 Champions League final, saw Real Madrid emerge victorious with a 3-2 scoreline at MetLife Stadium.

Real Madrid got off to a strong start, with Gonzalo García finding the net in the 10th minute, thanks to a well-placed pass from Arda Güler. Just ten minutes later, Fran García extended the lead, capitalizing on a skillful play by Trent Alexander-Arnold. Alexander-Arnold, who joined Real Madrid in the recent transfer window, recorded his first assist for the club in the previous match and followed it up with another in this game.

Dortmund, however, displayed resilience in the second half. Maximilian Beier pulled one back in the 92nd minute, setting up a tense finish. Kylian Mbappé, who came on as a substitute in the 67th minute, responded immediately with a spectacular bicycle kick to restore Real Madrid's two-goal advantage. The drama continued as Dean Huijsen fouled Serhou Guirassy in the box, resulting in a penalty and a red card for Huijsen. Guirassy converted the penalty, bringing Dortmund within one goal again.

With ten men, Real Madrid managed to hold on to their lead, thanks to a crucial save by Thibaut Courtois in the dying seconds of the game. Courtois tipped away Marcel Sabitzer's shot, ensuring Real Madrid's victory. The win marks Real Madrid's fourth consecutive victory under their new manager, Xabi Alonso. Alonso, who took over from Carlo Ancelotti, is looking for his fourth consecutive victory after his debut finished all square.

Real Madrid will now face Paris Saint-Germain in the semi-finals. The match promises to be a thrilling encounter, pitting the Spanish giants against the Champions League winners. The game is scheduled for Wednesday, July 9.

Arda Güler was named Player of the Match for his outstanding performance. Real Madrid's victory also means they have scored in every match of the competition and have kept a clean sheet in the last two matches. Dortmund will rue their missed chances, but their strong finish showcased their fighting spirit. Guirassy, who scored three goals in the competition, has been a standout player for the German side.
