Deepika's remarkable goal occurred in February 2025 during the Bhubaneswar leg of the Pro League. In that match, India defeated the Netherlands in a shootout after a 2-2 draw at the Kalinga Stadium. Deepika scored in the 35th minute, helping India equalize after trailing by two goals. She masterfully dribbled down the left flank, navigated around the Dutch defense, kissed the baseline, skillfully lifted the ball over a defender's stick, and then fired a shot past the goalkeeper into the net.
The 21-year-old attacker and drag-flicker described the goal as one of the most special moments of her career. She expressed gratitude for the support of her fans, coaches, teammates, and support staff. Deepika also stated that moments like these are what players train for and that the votes and support motivate her to push her limits and give her all for India.
Besides Deepika, Patricia Alvarez of Spain is also nominated for her impressive 3D skills and goal against Australia.
