Jamal Musiala, Bayern Munich's dynamic midfielder, suffered a fractured fibula during a collision in their Club World Cup quarter-final match against Paris Saint-Germain. The incident occurred near the end of the first half when Musiala collided with PSG goalkeeper Gianluigi Donnarumma while chasing a loose ball. The collision resulted in a serious injury to Musiala's left leg, with his ankle appearing to be twisted at an unnatural angle.

The 22-year-old was visibly in pain and was stretchered off the field, receiving immediate medical attention. He was subsequently taken to a hospital in Atlanta for further evaluation. Bayern Munich later confirmed that Musiala had suffered a fractured fibula and an ankle dislocation. He is expected to undergo surgery in Munich.

The injury is a significant blow to both Bayern Munich and the German national team, as Musiala is a key player for both squads. Bayern Munich's sporting director, Max Eberl, expressed his disappointment, stating that the injury and the long layoff are a real shock for Jamal and the club. He emphasized Musiala's importance to the team, both on and off the pitch, and assured him of the club's full support during his recovery. Bayern Munich coach Vincent Kompany also acknowledged the severity of the injury, expressing his frustration and concern for Musiala. Kompany highlighted Musiala's dedication to the sport and the unfortunate timing of the injury, especially after his recent recovery from a previous muscular injury.

Initial reports suggest that Musiala could be sidelined for at least four months, with some sources indicating a potential absence of four to five months due to additional ligament damage. This extended period on the sidelines means he will miss a significant portion of the upcoming season and critical matches for Bayern Munich. It also casts doubt on his availability for upcoming international fixtures with the German national team.

The severity of the injury was evident in the reactions of players from both teams. Donnarumma, the PSG goalkeeper involved in the collision, appeared distressed by the incident, and players quickly signaled for medical assistance. PSG also conveyed their support to Musiala, wishing him a swift and full recovery.

Musiala's injury occurred shortly after it was announced that he would inherit Bayern Munich's iconic No. 10 shirt following Leroy Sane's departure. He had just returned to the starting lineup after recovering from a muscular injury. Musiala had scored a hat-trick for Bayern in their 10-0 victory over Auckland City FC in the group stages.

Bayern Munich had advanced to the quarter-finals of the Club World Cup after defeating Flamengo 4-2 in the round of 16. They faced Paris Saint-Germain in the quarter-finals at Mercedes-Benz Stadium in Atlanta. The winner of the Club World Cup quarter finals was Paris Saint-Germain, with a score of 2-0.

The FIFA Club World Cup 2025 takes place in the USA from June 15 to July 13, 2025. Bayern Munich is among the participating teams.
