The 2025 CONCACAF Gold Cup Final between Mexico and the United States was preceded by the playing of each nation's anthem. The match, a renewal of the most historic rivalry in CONCACAF, took place at NRG Stadium in Houston.

Mexico has a rich history in the Gold Cup, seeking to extend their record with a 10th title. They also aimed to be the first repeat Gold Cup winners since 2009 and 2011. Mexico, the defending champion, began the tournament by defeating the Dominican Republic on June 14.

Ahead of the final, fans took to social media to comment on the passion displayed by the Mexican team during their national anthem. Some observers noted a contrast between the Mexican team singing with pride and some members of the USMNT not singing or barely mouthing the words to "The Star-Spangled Banner". This perceived lack of enthusiasm during the anthem sparked debate among fans.

The United States entered the final having won the Gold Cup seven times, second-most in the competition behind Mexico. The USMNT beat Trinidad & Tobago in their opening match on June 15. They reached their record 13th Gold Cup final. In the semifinals, the United States defeated Guatemala 2-0, with Diego Luna scoring both goals.

Going into the final, the United States was unbeaten in six straight competitive games against Mexico. During that streak, the five wins all occurred in the U.S., and the draw was a World Cup qualifier at Azteca in 2022. Mexico's last competitive win over the U.S. was in the 2019 Gold Cup final.

Coverage of the Gold Cup final between the U.S. and Mexico was broadcast on FOX and the FOX Sports app.
