Raul Jimenez etched his name on the scoresheet, leveling the score for Mexico against the United States in a highly anticipated Gold Cup final. The Mexican team, known as El Tri, is now battling the USMNT (United States Men's National Team) for the coveted title at NRG Stadium in Houston, Texas.

The match began with an early goal from Chris Richards of the United States in the 4th minute, putting Mexico on the back foot. Richards' goal came after a set piece, diving to head the ball past Mexican goalkeeper Malagón. Mexico, however, responded in the 23rd minute with a stunning goal from Raul Jimenez. A great cross found Jimenez in the box, who turned and fired a shot into the top corner, leaving the American goalkeeper with no chance. Jimenez dedicated his goal to Diogo Jota.

The first half saw intense play, with both teams creating opportunities. Mexico, with players like Vega, Alvarado, and Jimenez, struggled to break down the American defense in the initial minutes. The United States maintained a strong defensive line, preventing Mexico from getting clear shots on goal. Despite Alvarado's attempts to create danger, the U.S. defense held firm. Mexico gradually increased the intensity of their attacks, but the Americans remained well-positioned.

This is the eighth time the United States and Mexico have met in the Gold Cup final since 1991. The United States won their most recent final against Mexico in 2021, with Miles Robinson scoring a header in extra time. Entering the 2025 final, Mexico holds a 5-2 edge over the United States in Gold Cup final matches. Mexico has won nine Gold Cups, while the U.S. has seven. Only Canada, in 2000, has broken the United States-Mexico hold on the tournament.

Mexico advanced to the final after defeating Honduras 1-0 in the semi-final, with Jimenez scoring the decisive goal in the 50th minute. The assist came from 16-year-old Gilberto Mora. The United States secured their place in the final with a 2-1 victory over Guatemala, led by a strong performance from Diego Luna.

Raul Jimenez has emerged as a key player for Mexico in this Gold Cup. With 42 international goals, Jimenez's experience and form have made him Javier Aguirre's preferred striker. Jimenez's goal-scoring ability is vital for Mexico as they aim to win their 10th Gold Cup title.
