Sanjog Gupta has been appointed as the new Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of the International Cricket Council (ICC). He will assume office on July 7th, 2025, becoming the seventh CEO of the ICC. Gupta succeeds Geoff Allardice, who stepped down from the role in January after serving for four years.

Gupta is currently the CEO of Sports & Live Experiences at JioStar. He brings over two decades of cross-functional experience in the global media, entertainment, and sports sectors. The ICC recognizes Gupta as a visionary leader with a proven track record of building successful consumer franchises and an architect of India's modern sports ecosystem.

ICC Chairman Jay Shah expressed his pleasure in announcing Gupta's appointment, emphasizing his extensive experience in sports strategy and commercialization. Shah believes Gupta's expertise will be invaluable to the ICC. He also noted Gupta's deep understanding of the global sports and media landscape, combined with his passion for technology and understanding of the cricket fan's perspective, will be essential in achieving the ICC's ambition to grow the game in the coming years. The ICC aims to move beyond traditional boundaries, establish cricket as a regular sport in the Olympics, expand its global reach, and deepen its roots in core markets.

The ICC's global recruitment process, launched in March, attracted over 2,500 applications from candidates across 25 countries. The candidates included leaders from sports governing bodies and senior corporate executives from various sectors. The ICC's HR & Remuneration Committee carefully reviewed the applications. After shortlisting 12 profiles, the Nominations Committee unanimously recommended Gupta for the role. The recommendation was approved by ICC Chairman Jay Shah and ratified by the ICC Board.

Gupta was appointed CEO of JioStar Sports in November 2024, following the merger of Viacom18 and Disney Star, which created a new sports media entity. He is known for combining business acumen with creative storytelling and has consistently delivered innovation-led growth across media and sports ecosystems. Gupta played a crucial role in developing and executing multi-language, digital-first, and women-centric sports coverage. He is credited with leading the transformation of sports broadcasting in India and has been instrumental in scaling the popularity of major properties like the IPL, ICC events, PKL, ISL, Premier League and Wimbledon.

The ICC welcomes Sanjog Gupta as he prepares to lead cricket's global journey into a transformative future.
