Veteran Indian spinner R Ashwin has drawn parallels between young Haryana seamer Anshul Kamboj and established pace bowlers Zaheer Khan and Jasprit Bumrah, highlighting Kamboj's understanding and execution of bowling plans. Ashwin believes this tactical awareness sets Kamboj apart, even from bowlers with significant Test experience.

Kamboj has been drafted into India's Test team as cover for injured players Arshdeep Singh and Akash Deep. The 24-year-old is in line to make his Test debut at Old Trafford in Manchester in the fourth Test. Ashwin, who has observed Kamboj closely at Chennai Super Kings (CSK), expressed confidence in the youngster's potential contribution to the Indian team.

Ashwin emphasized Kamboj's ability to bowl long spells, a crucial asset in English conditions. He feels Kamboj could be an excellent foil for bowlers like Mohammed Siraj and Bumrah. While Prasidh Krishna is another option, Ashwin leans towards Kamboj due to the control he offers and his potential to contribute with the bat.

Ashwin lauded Kamboj's "tappa," referring to his good length and the consistency with which he hits it. He also praised Kamboj's wrist position, which allows him to deliver the ball with an upright seam.

According to Ashwin, Kamboj's key strength lies in his understanding of the game plan. He lamented that many bowlers, even after playing numerous Test matches, struggle with this aspect. Ashwin's observation suggests that Kamboj possesses a rare ability to grasp and implement strategies effectively, making him a valuable asset to any bowling attack.

Ashwin acknowledged that the team management will need to monitor Kamboj's nerves, given his lack of Test experience. However, he remains optimistic about Kamboj's potential to make a significant impact, drawing comparisons to Zaheer Khan and Jasprit Bumrah in terms of tactical acumen.
