Despite a heartbreaking defeat against Australia Champions in a thrilling match at the World Championship of Legends (WCL) 2025, Shikhar Dhawan has lauded the India Champions' team for their fighting spirit. The match, which went down to the wire, saw Australia clinch victory by 4 wickets with just one ball to spare.

India Champions, after being put in to bat first, posted a competitive total of 203/4 in their allotted 20 overs. Shikhar Dhawan led the charge with a masterful, unbeaten 91 off 60 balls, decorated with 12 fours and one six. Robin Uthappa provided a brisk start with 37 off 21 balls. However, the middle order stumbled, with Ambati Rayudu getting out for a duck, and Suresh Raina and Yuvraj Singh failing to capitalize.

Dhawan then anchored the innings, building a crucial 100-run partnership with Yusuf Pathan, who contributed a rapid 52 not out from just 23 deliveries, including three fours and four sixes. Their combined effort propelled India Champions past the 200-run mark.

Australia Champions had a shaky start in their chase, losing early wickets and finding themselves at 65/4 in the 8th over. Piyush Chawla was the pick of the Indian bowlers, claiming 3 wickets, while Harbhajan Singh took 2. However, Callum Ferguson turned the game around with a match-winning innings, ultimately sealing the victory for Australia with a six off Irfan Pathan in the final over. Australia reached 207/6 in 19.5 overs.

Speaking after the match, Dhawan expressed pride in his team's performance. "We gave it everything out there," he said. "These are the kind of matches that define the love we have for the game. It was a great fight till the very end".

Dhawan's own performance was a highlight of the match, with his composed and aggressive batting display earning him accolades. His 91* was a testament to his enduring class and ability to anchor an innings. Yusuf Pathan's explosive cameo also provided the much-needed impetus in the final overs, showcasing his power-hitting prowess.

Despite the loss, Dhawan's words reflect the positive attitude within the India Champions camp. The team's fighting spirit and determination were evident throughout the match, and they will be looking to bounce back stronger in their upcoming games.

The India Champions vs. Australia Champions match was the 10th match of the World Championship of Legends.
