The recent Test series between India and England has been a hot topic of discussion among cricket experts and fans alike. A thrilling 2-2 draw in the Anderson-Tendulkar Trophy has provided ample fodder for debate, particularly regarding the performances of key players. One such discussion took place on the "For The Love Of Cricket" podcast, featuring former England pacer Stuart Broad and wicketkeeper-batsman Jos Buttler.

During the podcast, Broad was asked to pick between India's Shubman Gill and England's Joe Root for the No. 4 spot in a combined XI, based solely on their performances in the series. Broad initially hesitated, seemingly overwhelmed by the dilemma. He humorously exclaimed, "Oh, piss off," acknowledging the difficulty of choosing between two such accomplished batsmen. Broad highlighted Gill's impressive run as a Test captain, noting that he had scored the most runs behind Don Bradman. He also acknowledged Root's exceptional form, pointing out that he had scored three back-to-back centuries and reached the second position in the all-time list for most Test runs.

However, after some deliberation, Broad made his final decision, choosing Joe Root. His reasoning, however, was quite amusing. Broad quipped, "Well, only because I've got Joe Root's mobile number and don't want the abuse, I'm going to go with Joe Root". This lighthearted justification left Jos Buttler visibly stunned and elicited laughter.

Shubman Gill had an outstanding series, finishing as the highest run-scorer with 754 runs at an average of 75.40, including four centuries. His performance drew comparisons to Sachin Tendulkar, with commentators noting his temperament and resilience under pressure. Gill also led the Indian team for the first time in a Test series.

Joe Root also displayed his class and consistency throughout the series. Buttler has previously backed Root to surpass Sachin Tendulkar's Test run record, observing that Root is likely to remain in England's red-ball setup for a few more years. Buttler stated that while Root isn't actively chasing the milestone, he has a strong chance of overtaking the Indian legend.

The Test series was filled with drama and excitement, with several players making significant contributions. Mohammed Siraj's fiery five-wicket burst in the final Test at The Oval helped India secure a narrow six-run victory and draw the series. Siraj was named Player of the Match and finished as the highest wicket-taker of the series with 23 wickets. KL Rahul also had a strong series, scoring 532 runs and filling the shoes of Rohit Sharma at the top of the order.

Stuart Broad also criticized the umpires' decision to call stumps early on Day 4 of the final Test due to bad light. He felt that the supporters deserved to see a finish to the day's play, especially since the conditions had improved after a brief rain shower. Broad described the decision as "lazy" and expressed his disappointment on social media.

Overall, the Anderson-Tendulkar Trophy series was a memorable one, filled with outstanding performances, dramatic moments, and plenty of talking points. While Stuart Broad's choice between Joe Root and Shubman Gill was a lighthearted moment, it reflected the high level of competition and talent on display throughout the series.
