Presnel Kimpembe's surprising transfer: After 20 years, PSG's homegrown star departs for Qatar SC.

After two decades with Paris Saint-Germain, Presnel Kimpembe has officially moved to Qatar SC. The transfer marks the end of a long and storied chapter for the 30-year-old center-back, who joined PSG's academy in 2005 at the age of eight. The announcement was made by Paris Saint-Germain on September 7, 2025.

Kimpembe's journey with PSG has been filled with numerous achievements. He made his professional debut on October 17, 2014, stepping onto the pitch against Lens. Throughout his time with the club, he made 241 appearances, demonstrating his commitment and value to the team. During his tenure, Kimpembe helped PSG secure numerous titles, including eight Ligue 1 championships, seven French Cups, six French Super Cups, and the 2025 Champions League. Individually, he was named to the Champions League Team of the Season in 2020 and the Ligue 1 Team of the Season at the 2021 UNFP Awards.

However, Kimpembe's recent seasons have been marred by a serious Achilles injury. He initially suffered the injury in February 2023 during a match against Marseille, which sidelined him for an extended period. After almost two years, he made his return to competition in a Coupe de France match against Le Mans on February 4, 2025. Despite his efforts to return to regular play, Kimpembe faced limited playing time, and PSG ultimately omitted him from their UEFA Champions League squad.

PSG President Nasser Al-Khelaifi acknowledged Kimpembe's contributions to the club, stating that since the age of eight, Kimpembe "has grown and developed at every level within his beloved club, where he has always been an ambassador and model of professionalism". Al-Khelaifi added that Kimpembe is "a fantastic example for the young players at our Youth Academy and will always be part of the Paris Saint-Germain family," wishing him success in his future endeavors.

Internationally, Kimpembe has represented France on 28 occasions. He was a member of the French squad that won the 2018 FIFA World Cup in Russia and the UEFA Nations League in 2021.

The move to Qatar SC presents a new chapter for Kimpembe, offering him a fresh start in a different footballing environment. While his departure marks the end of an era at PSG, his legacy as a homegrown talent and a key contributor to the club's success will undoubtedly be remembered by fans and the club alike.
