In a moment of triumph and solidarity, veteran midfielder Manpreet Singh dedicated the Indian men's hockey team's Asia Cup victory to the victims of the devastating floods in Punjab. India secured their fourth Asia Cup title after defeating South Korea 4-1 in the final held in Rajgir, Bihar. This win also secured India a direct entry into the FIH Hockey World Cup 2026, which will be held in Belgium and the Netherlands.

Manpreet, a seasoned player born in Mithapur village near Jalandhar, Punjab, acknowledged the immense challenges faced by the people of his home state. With over 2,050 villages impacted across 23 districts and crops damaged on 1.76 lakh hectares, the floods have caused widespread devastation and loss of life.

"I would like to dedicate this victory to the people of Punjab who are enduring the devastating floods with unimaginable strength and resilience," said Manpreet. "This triumph is for every victim fighting to rebuild their life, and to the selfless volunteers who are working day and night to rescue, support, and rehabilitate those in need. Your spirit is our true inspiration, and this win is a tribute to the courage of Punjab," the former captain added.

The Indian team displayed dominant form throughout the Asia Cup tournament. In the final against South Korea, Sukhjeet Singh, Dilpreet Singh (scoring twice), and Amit Rohidas contributed goals to India's resounding victory. India had previously won the Asia Cup in 2003, 2007, and 2017.

Sukhjeet Singh, Mandeep Singh, and Hardik Singh, also from Jalandhar, were key members of the winning squad. Sukhjeet Singh, who overcame partial paralysis to represent India in the Olympics, scored the opening goal in the final.

The team's success was built on a foundation of strategic gameplay and adaptability. India remained undefeated throughout the tournament, showcasing their dominance with five wins and one draw. In the Super 4s stage, India recorded convincing victories against Malaysia (4-1) and China (7-0).

Following the Asia Cup win, Hockey India announced a reward of INR 3 lakh for each player and INR 1.5 lakh for the support staff.
