The 2025 NBA Playoffs are delivering thrilling action, with several teams making strong statements in the first round. As of April 28, 2025, the Minnesota Timberwolves have pushed the Los Angeles Lakers to the brink of elimination, while the Boston Celtics, New York Knicks, and Indiana Pacers have also secured important victories.

In the Western Conference, the Minnesota Timberwolves are making waves with their commanding 3-1 series lead over LeBron James and the Los Angeles Lakers. In their recent Game 4 matchup in Minneapolis, the Timberwolves overcame a double-digit deficit in the second half to clinch a 116-113 victory. Anthony Edwards led the charge with a game-high 43 points, including 16 in the final quarter, while Julius Randle contributed 25 points. Minnesota's dominance in the paint and on the glass proved to be a difference-maker, outscoring the Lakers 48-30 in the paint and securing 18 offensive rebounds compared to Los Angeles' 11. Luka Doncic had 38 points for the Lakers. The Lakers now face elimination as they head back to Los Angeles for Game 5.

Over in the Eastern Conference, several teams are asserting their dominance. The Boston Celtics, the second seed in the East, are currently leading their series against the Orlando Magic 3-1. After winning the first two games at home, the Celtics dropped Game 3 on the road but bounced back in Game 4 with a 107-98 victory. The Celtics look to close out the series at home in Game 5.

The New York Knicks, the third seed in the Eastern Conference, are also in a favorable position, leading their series against the Detroit Pistons 3-1. The Knicks are aiming to leverage their strong home record and playoff-tested core to advance to the next round. The Knicks won a close Game 4 against the Pistons 94-93. The Pistons' Game 2 victory over the Knicks marked their first playoff win since 2008, ending a 15-game postseason losing streak. The Knicks will look to close out the series at home.

The Indiana Pacers are also making their presence felt in the Eastern Conference playoffs. As the fourth seed, they hold a 3-1 lead over the Milwaukee Bucks. The Pacers have demonstrated their offensive firepower throughout the series. Game 5 is scheduled for April 29 in Indiana.

Meanwhile, the Cleveland Cavaliers are on the verge of sweeping the Miami Heat, holding a 3-0 lead in their series. The Oklahoma City Thunder have already completed a sweep of the Memphis Grizzlies, becoming the first team to advance to the second round of the 2025 NBA Playoffs.

The playoffs, which began on April 19, will continue until the NBA Finals in June.
