The Mumbai Indians defeated the Gujarat Titans by 20 runs in the Eliminator of IPL 2025 at the Maharaja Yadavindra Singh International Cricket Stadium, Mullanpur, on May 30, 2025. The high-scoring match saw MI post a total of 228/5, propelled by Rohit Sharma's brilliant 81 off 50 balls and supported by Jonny Bairstow (47) and Hardik Pandya (22*). Sai Sudharsan fought valiantly for GT, scoring 80 off 49 balls, but it wasn't enough to overcome Mumbai's total.

The defeat was a bitter pill to swallow for the Gujarat Titans and their families. The cameras captured heart-wrenching scenes of distraught family members in the stands. Among them were head coach Ashish Nehra's son, Arush Nehra, who was seen crying inconsolably after the final ball. His sister, Ariana Nehra, was also visibly upset by the loss. Shubman Gill's sister, Shahneel Gill, was also spotted in tears, along with other members of the GT social media team. The emotional reactions underscored the deep connection and investment the families had in the team's performance.

Mumbai Indians' victory was set up by a strong batting performance. Rohit Sharma was named Player of the Match for his outstanding innings, which included good partnerships with Bairstow, Suryakumar Yadav, and Tilak Varma. Hardik Pandya's late-overs hitting, where he smashed three sixes in the final over, proved crucial in pushing MI's score to an insurmountable total. Despite dropping Rohit Sharma early in his innings, Mumbai capitalized on their opportunities.

Gujarat Titans' chase started poorly with Shubman Gill dismissed early by Trent Boult. Sai Sudharsan's impressive innings, along with Washington Sundar's 40, kept GT in the game, but Jasprit Bumrah's crucial yorker to dismiss Sundar and Richard Gleeson's late wickets swung the momentum back in Mumbai's favor. Ultimately, GT fell short, finishing at 208/6.

The Mumbai Indians will now face the Punjab Kings in Qualifier 2, with the winner advancing to the final. For Gujarat Titans, their IPL 2025 campaign comes to an end after a promising season. While experienced players like Hardik Pandya and Richard Gleeson were expensive, Ashwani Kumar bowled well for MI.
