The Indian U-23 Men's Football Team faced a setback in their preparations for the AFC U23 Asian Cup Qualifiers, losing 1-2 to Iraq U23 in a friendly match held at the UM Arena Stadium in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia on August 25, 2025.

The match was a closed-door affair, providing both teams with an opportunity to test their strategies and evaluate their players away from the public eye. The game saw an evenly contested first half, with Iraq taking the lead through Dhulfiqar Younus in the 36th minute. However, India responded swiftly, with Mohammed Sanan finding the net in the 39th minute to level the score.

The second half continued in a similar vein, with both teams creating chances. However, it was Iraq who ultimately found the breakthrough, with Mustafa Nawaf Zai scoring the winning goal in the 72nd minute. Despite the defeat, the match provided valuable experience for the Indian team as they gear up for the AFC U23 Asian Cup Qualifiers.

India's starting XI for the match against Iraq included Mohd Arbaz (GK), Bikash Yumnam (C), Pramveer, Muhammed Saheef, Vibin Mohanan, Mohammed Sanan, Chingangbam Shivaldo Singh, Muhammad Suhail, Fanai Lalremtluanga, Sahil Harijan, and Ricky Meetei Haobam.

Coached by Naushad Moosa, the Indian team is preparing for the AFC U23 Asian Cup Qualifiers, which will be held in Doha from September 3-9. The "Blue Colts" are set to face Bahrain on September 3, followed by hosts Qatar on September 6, and Brunei Darussalam on September 9.

The friendly against Iraq was part of India's preparations for these qualifiers, offering a chance to fine-tune their skills and tactics. India will play another closed-door friendly against Iraq on August 28 in Kuala Lumpur.
