India Shines at 2025 Asian Athletics, Secures Second Place with Impressive Gold Medal Haul.

The 26th edition of the Asian Athletics Championships concluded in Gumi, South Korea, on May 31, 2025, with India achieving a remarkable feat by securing the second position in the overall medal tally. The Indian contingent showcased exceptional talent and determination, amassing a total of 24 medals, including 8 gold, 10 silver, and 6 bronze. This performance marks India's best showing at the Asian Athletics Championships since 2017, when they hosted the event in Bhubaneswar.

China dominated the medal standings, securing the top spot with 32 medals, comprising 19 gold, 9 silver, and 4 bronze. Japan finished third with a total of 28 medals, including 5 gold, 11 silver, and 12 bronze. Over 60 Indian athletes participated in the five-day competition held in Gumi, competing across 30 medal events.

Gulveer Singh emerged as one of the stars for India, clinching gold medals in both the men's 10,000m and 5,000m races. Avinash Sable added another gold to India's tally by winning the men's 3000m steeplechase. In the women's events, Jyothi Yarraji successfully defended her title in the 100m hurdles, securing another gold for India. The women's 4x400m relay team, comprising Jisna Mathew, Rupal Chaudhary, Kunja Rajitha, and Subha Venkatesan, also secured a gold medal. Pooja won gold in the women's high jump, and Nandini Agasara won gold in the Heptathlon. The Indian mixed 4x400m relay team also successfully defended their continental crown.

Several Indian athletes also secured silver medals in their respective events. Rupal Chaudhary won silver in the women's 400m, while Pooja secured silver in the women's 1500m. Tejaswin Shankar won silver in the decathlon, and Praveen Chithravel secured silver in the men's triple jump. Ancy Soja won silver in the women's long jump, and Parul Chaudhary claimed silver in the women's 3000m steeplechase. Sachin Yadav won the silver medal in the men's javelin throw, with a personal best throw of 85.16m, behind Pakistan's Arshad Nadeem. Parul Chaudhary also secured a silver medal in the women's 5000m. The women's 4x100m relay team, consisting of Srabani Nanda, Abhinaya Rajarajan, Sneha SS, and Nithya Gandhe, won a silver medal. The Men's 4x400m Relay team also secured a silver medal.

In addition to the gold and silver medalists, several Indian athletes also won bronze medals. Servin Sebastian won bronze in the men's 20km race walk, and Yoonus Shah secured bronze in the men's 1500m. Shaili Singh won bronze in the women's long jump, and Animesh Kujur won bronze in the men's 200m, setting a new national record of 20.32 seconds. Vithya Ramraj secured bronze in the women's 400m hurdles, and Pooja won bronze in the women's 800m.
