The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) orchestrated a moving tribute to the Indian Armed Forces during the closing ceremony of the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2025 final, held at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad on June 3rd. The event preceded the highly anticipated clash between Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) and Punjab Kings (PBKS), adding a layer of patriotic fervor to the sporting spectacle.

The decision to dedicate the closing ceremony to the armed forces stemmed from their remarkable success in Operation Sindoor. This operation was launched in response to a devastating terror attack in Pahalgam, Jammu and Kashmir, earlier this year, which claimed the lives of 26 civilians. The Indian Armed Forces conducted precise strikes on terrorist camps in Pakistan and Pakistan-occupied Kashmir, demonstrating their unwavering commitment to national security.

BCCI secretary Devajit Saikia emphasized the importance of honoring the armed forces, stating, "We BCCI, salute the bravery, courage, and selfless service of our armed forces, whose heroic efforts under Operation Sindoor continue to protect and inspire the nation. As a tribute, we have decided to dedicate the closing ceremony to the armed forces and honour our heroes." He further added that while cricket is a national passion, nothing is more paramount than the nation's sovereignty, integrity, and security.

The tribute included a performance by renowned singer Shankar Mahadevan, who along with his sons Shivam and Siddharth, presented a medley of patriotic songs that resonated deeply with the audience. The performance commenced with 'Bharat' from Manikarnika, followed by the title track of 'Lakshya', which ignited the crowd, as fans waved Indian flags with pride. Other songs included 'Ae Watan' from Raazi', 'Kandho Se Milte Hain Kandhe' (also from Lakshya), the iconic 'Vande Mataram', and 'Yeh Desh Hai Veer Jawanon Ka'.

Adding to the grandeur, a video package was played showcasing the commendable efforts of the armed forces. There was also a dance performance. The stadium was adorned with the Indian tricolor, and the atmosphere was charged with patriotism, blending the spirit of cricket with national pride.

While the BCCI extended invitations to the three service chiefs of the Indian Armed Forces, it was reported that they were unlikely to attend the event. However, the ceremony proceeded with full enthusiasm.

The IPL 2025 season had faced temporary suspension due to the tensions arising from the Pahalgam attack, but resumed with the national anthem being sung and messages of gratitude displayed on giant screens during matches. The final, originally scheduled for May 26, was moved to June 3.

The closing ceremony, broadcasted live on JioHotStar and Star Sports, set the stage for the final showdown between RCB and PBKS. Both teams were vying for their first-ever IPL title, adding another layer of excitement to the day. Punjab Kings won the toss and elected to field. The event successfully honored the armed forces and blended patriotism with cricket.
