Wales forward David Brooks is overcome with joy as he and his wife, Flora, are expecting their first child on November 1st. The 27-year-old Bournemouth player has openly shared the emotional journey he has experienced since his diagnosis with stage-two Hodgkin lymphoma nearly four years ago.

Brooks, who received the all-clear from cancer in May 2022, admitted that the prospect of fathering children was uncertain due to the long-term effects of the disease. He is currently with the Wales squad for their World Cup qualifying matches against Liechtenstein and Belgium. The news that he would become a father was met with tears of happiness, especially considering the challenges he has faced.

"Obviously when I was diagnosed, you have those conversations, and there were never any guarantees that I would be able to have children in the future," Brooks said. "There was a chance it wouldn't have been possible, and I was really lucky that it came naturally. After my treatment, things went back to normal, so, of course, I was really happy."

Brooks revealed that he and his wife had been trying to conceive, so the news wasn't a complete surprise, but it was still incredibly emotional. "We were trying, so it wasn't a massive shock, but there were a few tears," he shared. The couple had always envisioned having children, but his cancer diagnosis made the path to parenthood seem uncertain. "We always wanted kids at some point, but the situation kind of took it out of hands a little bit," he explained. "There was a chance it wouldn't have been possible, and I was really lucky that it came naturally."

The Welsh international expressed his gratitude and excitement about starting a family. "So it's obviously very nice for everything to come naturally and progress into being a family," Brooks said. "We're really looking forward to it, even though she is going through everything that comes with being pregnant."

Brooks has been a key player for Wales, notably scoring a crucial equalizer in their World Cup qualifier against North Macedonia in March. The goal, which came in the sixth minute of stoppage time, secured a 1-1 draw for Wales.
