Enzo Maresca, the new Chelsea head coach, has revealed that he has not spoken to Mykhailo Mudryk since May. This revelation comes amidst Mudryk facing a potential four-year ban for a doping offence.

Mudryk, the Ukrainian winger, was charged by the Football Association (FA) after failing a drugs test last November. The positive test led to his suspension, and he subsequently missed the second half of the previous season. The winger is accused of violating anti-doping rules.

Maresca confirmed the last time he spoke with Mudryk was in Poland, during the Conference League final in Wroclaw. Mudryk was present at the event in a private capacity. Maresca said he had not spoken to Mudryk since. He stated that he was only informed of the charges against Mudryk the previous night and does not have any further information at this time.

Despite the severity of the situation, Maresca expressed his support for Mudryk, who cost £89m in January 2023. He said that until he is told otherwise, he will continue to trust Mudryk, emphasizing that this approach applies to all players. Maresca added that he intends to speak with Mudryk in the coming days or weeks to discuss the situation.

The news of Mudryk's potential ban has prompted Chelsea to consider their options in the transfer market. They are openly looking for a new winger and have already had two bids rejected for Borussia Dortmund's Jamie Gittens. Maresca acknowledged the need to improve the team's wing options, mentioning Noni Madueke and Pedro Neto as current players in those positions, while also considering Tyrique George as an adaptable option. However, he insisted that Madueke is not for sale this summer, despite speculation linking him with a move away from Stamford Bridge.

Mudryk has vowed to clear his name and denies any wrongdoing. Following the announcement of his provisional suspension back in December 2024, Mudryk released a statement asserting his innocence, stating he had "not done anything wrong".

Maresca has previously voiced his support for Mudryk following the initial news of the failed drug test. In December 2024, he stated that everyone at Chelsea was upset and ready to support Mudryk through the process. He emphasized the importance of maintaining close relationships with his players and offering assistance during difficult times. At the time, Maresca also said that the club and teammates all believe that Mudryk is innocent.

The situation remains uncertain as Mudryk awaits further proceedings regarding his case. Chelsea is supporting the player. The club awaits the results of the investigation.
