Real Madrid secured a vital 3-1 victory over Pachuca in their second Group H match of the FIFA Club World Cup 2025, played at the Bank of America Stadium in Charlotte, North Carolina. The win puts them in a strong position to advance to the knockout stages, although the match was far from straightforward for the Spanish giants.

Xabi Alonso's side faced an early setback when Raul Asencio was shown a straight red card in the 7th minute for a foul on Salomon Rondon, who was through on goal. Despite being reduced to 10 men, Real Madrid demonstrated their resilience and quality. Goalkeeper Thibaut Courtois was instrumental, making several crucial saves to keep Pachuca at bay.

Pachuca, representing Liga MX, started strongly, probing Real Madrid's high defensive line. However, they failed to capitalize on their early chances. As the first half progressed, Real Madrid gradually gained control. In the 35th minute, Jude Bellingham opened the scoring with a well-taken goal, receiving a pass from Fran Garcia and firing a left-footed shot into the bottom corner. Just before halftime, Arda Guler doubled the lead, finishing off a good build-up play.

In the second half, Pachuca continued to press, but Real Madrid's defense, marshaled by Courtois, remained firm. Federico Valverde sealed the victory in the 70th minute, converting a pass from Brahim Diaz. Elias Montiel scored a late consolation goal for Pachuca in the 80th minute, but it was not enough to alter the outcome.

This victory marks Xabi Alonso's first win as Real Madrid manager. The team showcased their ability to overcome adversity, securing a crucial three points despite playing with a numerical disadvantage for the majority of the match. Real Madrid now sits atop Group H with four points. Their next match is against RB Salzburg. Pachuca will face Al-Hilal, needing a win to keep their hopes of advancing alive.

Real Madrid's history in the Club World Cup is rich with success. They have won the competition a record eight times, including titles in 2014, 2016, 2017, 2018 and most recently in 2022 where they beat Al-Hilal 5-3 in the final. The expanded 2025 FIFA Club World Cup features 32 teams, with Real Madrid among the participants. This edition promises higher stakes and greater prize money, making it a significant event in the football calendar.

The win against Pachuca keeps Real Madrid on track for the knockout stages of the Club World Cup, underscoring their status as one of the favorites to win the competition.
