India's women's football team has kicked off their AFC Women’s Asian Cup 2026 Qualifiers campaign in spectacular fashion, securing a record-breaking 13-0 victory over Mongolia. The match, held at the 700th Anniversary Stadium in Chiang Mai, Thailand, saw the Blue Tigresses dominate from start to finish, setting a new benchmark for their performance in the tournament's history.

The win marks India's largest ever in an AFC Women's Asian Cup match, surpassing their previous record of 10-0 wins against Guam in 1997 and 2005. This dominant display has not only boosted their confidence but also sent a strong message to their competitors in Group B.

Pyari Xaxa emerged as the star of the match, netting an impressive five goals. Her clinical finishing and flair were a constant threat to the Mongolian defense, earning her the title of "goal machine". Soumya Guguloth also played a crucial role, scoring twice and providing several key assists. Priyadharshini Selladurai contributed with a brace, showcasing her ability to strike from outside the box.

The scoring was distributed across the team, with Sangita Basfore, Rimpa Haldar, Malavika, and Grace Dangmei also finding the back of the net. Basfore opened the scoring early in the game, heading in a cross from Soumya. Guguloth doubled the lead with a powerful volley, while Haldar and Malavika added to the tally in the second half. Dangmei converted a penalty, further extending India's lead.

From the first whistle, India displayed intensity, pressing high and maintaining fluid movement in midfield. They allowed Mongolia very little space, keeping them pinned in their own half for extended periods. The Blue Tigresses' relentless attack and solid defense ensured a comfortable victory.

Following Soumya's second goal, head coach Crispin Chettri made several substitutions, bringing in fresh legs and providing opportunities for players like Purnima Kumari, Ranjana Chanu, and Monalisha Devi. These changes did not disrupt the team's momentum, as they continued to create chances and add to their score.

With this resounding win, India has set a high standard for their upcoming matches in the qualifiers. Their next challenge will be against Timor Leste, and the team will undoubtedly carry their confidence and momentum into that game. The Blue Tigresses have demonstrated their attacking prowess and teamwork, making them a formidable force in the AFC Women’s Asian Cup 2026 Qualifiers.
