The UP Warriorz, a Women's Premier League (WPL) franchise, and head coach Jon Lewis have mutually decided to part ways, concluding their three-year association. The announcement, made on Friday, June 27, 2025, signals a fresh direction for the team after a mixed performance during Lewis's tenure.

Lewis, a former English fast bowler, joined the UP Warriorz ahead of the inaugural WPL season in 2023. That year, he guided the team to a promising start, reaching the playoffs. However, they were defeated by the Mumbai Indians, who went on to win the championship. The team couldn't replicate the same success in the following seasons. In 2024, the Warriorz finished fourth, managing only three wins out of eight games. The 2025 season proved even more challenging, with the team finishing at the bottom of the standings, again with three wins in eight games. Several factors contributed to this disappointing performance, including injuries to key players like Alyssa Healy, which led to Deepti Sharma taking over the captaincy. The team struggled to find consistency and balance throughout the season.

Despite the recent setbacks, the UP Warriorz acknowledged Lewis's contribution to the team. In a farewell message posted on their official Instagram account, the franchise thanked Lewis for "leading with heart, calm, and belief," recognizing his role in the team's journey. They also stated that he would "always be a part of the Warriorz Family."

Under Lewis's guidance, the UP Warriorz won a total of nine out of 25 matches. There were some memorable moments, including achieving the highest total in WPL history: 225 runs against Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB), highlighted by Georgia Voll's impressive unbeaten 99.

During his time with the UP Warriorz, Lewis also served as the head coach of the England Women's team, a dual role he had held since November 2022. However, he stepped down from the England role in March 2025 after the team's poor performance in the Women's Ashes.

Prior to his coaching career, Lewis had a long and successful career as a cricketer in England. He played for Gloucestershire, Surrey, and Sussex, accumulating over 1,150 wickets and 5,000 runs across all formats. He also represented England in one Test, 13 ODIs, and two T20Is.

As the UP Warriorz look ahead to the 2026 season, they will be seeking a new head coach to lead the team. The franchise will aim to build on the foundation laid by Lewis and improve their performance in the upcoming seasons.
