Chelsea Football Club has reportedly reached an agreement with Borussia Dortmund to acquire the highly-rated young winger, Jamie Gittens. The transfer fee is understood to be £55 million, including add-ons. The 20-year-old is expected to sign a seven-year contract with the Blues.

Fabrizio Romano reported that Gittens has already completed the main part of his medical. Personal terms between Gittens and Chelsea were agreed upon weeks ago, but negotiations between the two clubs regarding the transfer fee have been ongoing. Talks reportedly took place in the United States, where both Chelsea and Dortmund are participating in the Club World Cup.

Gittens, who has also represented England at the Under-21 level, is considered a promising talent. He joined Dortmund in 2020 and broke into the first team in 2022. This season, he scored eight goals in the Bundesliga and four in the Champions League for Dortmund. In the 2024/25 season, Gittens recorded 12 goals and five assists. Before his move to Germany, Gittens was a youth player for both Chelsea and Manchester City, spending the majority of his youth career with Reading.

Sky Sports News believes Chelsea's interest in Gittens is for the long-term. Enzo Maresca, Chelsea's head coach, has reportedly been seeking an "electric touchline winger," and Gittens appears to fit that profile. He will be competing for a place in the squad with players like Pedro Neto and Noni Madueke.

Chelsea's pursuit of Gittens reportedly led them to abandon their obligation to buy Jadon Sancho, who was on loan from Manchester United. This decision resulted in Chelsea paying a £5 million penalty fee to Manchester United. Bayern Munich also explored a deal for Gittens, but they did not make a formal offer.

Despite completing his medical with Chelsea while in the United States for the Club World Cup, Gittens will not be eligible to play for Chelsea in the tournament. FIFA regulations prevent a player from being on the final list of more than one club participating in the competition. Having already been included in Dortmund's squad and played for them in the tournament, Gittens will have to wait until the team returns to England for pre-season to join his new Chelsea teammates.

The acquisition of Jamie Gittens is seen as a significant move for Chelsea, adding a young and talented player to their squad as they aim to strengthen their options on the left wing.
