Guatemala has eliminated Canada from the 2025 Concacaf Gold Cup after winning 6-5 on penalty kicks following a 1-1 draw in the quarterfinal match. The match was held on Sunday at U.S. Bank Stadium in Minneapolis.

Jonathan David gave Canada an early lead, converting a penalty kick in the 30th minute after Aaron Herrera fouled Tani Oluwaseyi in the box. However, Canada's Jacob Shaffelburg received a second yellow card and was ejected in first-half stoppage time, reducing Canada to 10 players.

Guatemala capitalized on their numerical advantage in the 69th minute when Rubio Rubín headed in a cross from Oscar Santis, leveling the score at 1-1. The game remained tied through the end of regulation and extra time, leading to a penalty shootout.

In the shootout, José Morales scored the decisive penalty for Guatemala after Canada's Luc de Fougerolles hit his attempt off the crossbar. Guatemala won the shootout 6-5, securing their place in the semifinals.

Guatemala will now face the winner of the United States-Costa Rica quarterfinal match in the semifinal on July 2 at St. Louis CITY SC's Energizer Park.

Canada had a strong start in the Gold Cup, with a 6-0 victory over Honduras. However, they then drew with El Salvador. Guatemala, coached by Luis Fernando Tena, had a narrow victory over Jamaica in their opening match, followed by a defeat to Panama. In their last group match, Guatemala won 3-2 against Guadeloupe, finishing second in Group C with 6 points.
