Mexico faced Honduras in a crucial 2025 Concacaf Gold Cup semifinal match at Levi's Stadium in Santa Clara, California, on Wednesday, with a coveted spot in the final against the United States at stake. The winner would advance to the 2025 Concacaf Gold Cup Final, where the region's best national team will be crowned.

Mexico secured a 1-0 victory over Honduras in the semifinal. The match concluded with Mexico winning 1-0.

The two teams most recently clashed in the 2024/25 Concacaf Nations League Quarterfinals the previous November, where Mexico prevailed with a 4-2 aggregate score. In the first leg, Honduras secured a 2-0 victory courtesy of Luis Palma's brace, but Mexico responded emphatically in the return leg, winning 4-0 with goals from Raúl Jiménez, Henry Martín (2), and Jorge Sánchez.

This semifinal showdown marked the 48th all-time meeting between Mexico and Honduras, with Mexico holding a dominant record of 29 wins, 9 losses, and 9 draws. Their goal difference also reflects Mexico's superiority, with 87 goals scored against Honduras' 33. In their last five encounters, Mexico has claimed three wins but suffered two defeats against Honduras.

Mexico, the defending Gold Cup champions, entered the tournament seeking their tenth title, a testament to their historical dominance in the competition. They had advanced to the semifinal stage in 11 of their previous 14 appearances, frequently reaching the final and securing the title in two of the past three editions (2019 and 2023). In the 2025 edition, Mexico showcased a robust defense, conceding only two goals and maintaining three clean sheets in four games. Mexico continued its title defense after securing a 2-0 win against Saudi Arabia in the Quarterfinals with a goal from Alexis Vega and an own goal of Abdullah Madu.

Honduras, making their sixth semifinal appearance, aimed to reach their second Gold Cup Final, having finished as runners-up in the inaugural edition. Their best finishes include third-place finishes in 2005 and 2009, with current manager Reinaldo Rueda coaching the latter. Honduras edged out Panama 5-4 on penalties following a 1-1 draw in regulation to reach this stage. Anthony Lozano's equalizer in the 82nd minute kept their hopes alive and forced the penalty shootout.

The match was held at Levi's Stadium in Santa Clara. Tickets were sold out before kickoff, and a packed stadium was expected. The winner of the match would face United States in the Final.

Mexico's qualification for the 2025 Gold Cup came through their performance in the 2024/25 Concacaf Nations League, where they overcame Honduras in the quarterfinals with a 4-2 aggregate victory. Raúl Jiménez shone in the CNL Final against Panama, guiding Mexico to a 2-1 victory with another double. Mexico won the 2023 Gold Cup under then head coach Jaime Lozano. Santiago Giménez delivered the match-winning goal in the 1-0 Final victory over Panama.
