Shubman Gill's magnificent form has put India in a commanding position in the ongoing Test series against England. The young captain has been rewriting records and displaying exceptional batting prowess, leading India towards a potential big victory. Gill's second century in the match has not only solidified India's dominance but has also etched his name in cricket history.

Gill's performance in the second Test at Edgbaston has been nothing short of extraordinary. After a brilliant 269 in the first innings, he followed it up with a remarkable 161 in the second. This is his 8th Test century. Gill's second innings came off 162 balls, decorated with 13 fours and eight sixes. This outstanding display of skill and determination has put India in a strong position to win the match.

In the second innings, India declared at 427/6, setting England a daunting target of 608 runs. Besides Gill's 161, crucial contributions from KL Rahul (55), Rishabh Pant (65), and Ravindra Jadeja (69*) helped India reach a formidable total. At the end of Day 4, England were struggling at 72/3, requiring another 536 runs to win.

Gill's record-breaking spree has been a major highlight of the Test. He has become the first player in 148 years of Test cricket to score a double century and a 150 in the same match. He broke Sunil Gavaskar's 54-year-old record for the most runs by an Indian in a Test match. Gill amassed a total of 430 runs in the match, surpassing Gavaskar's previous record of 344 runs against the West Indies in 1971. He is also the first Indian captain to register a double century and a century in the same Test. Overall, he is the 9th player to achieve this feat.

Gill also joins an elite list of Indian captains, including Sunil Gavaskar and Virat Kohli, to score hundreds in both innings of a Test. He is the second player after Virat Kohli to record three centuries in his first two Tests as captain. Shubman Gill has surpassed several milestones, including the highest score by an Indian captain in Tests, exceeding Virat Kohli's previous best. His knock is also the highest by an Indian batter in England and outside Asia, solidifying his place in cricket history.

Shubman Gill, born on September 8, 1999, is 25 years old. He is currently ranked as the number 1 batter. Gill has been in excellent form recently, as demonstrated by his performances in the ICC Champions Trophy 2025 and the ODI series against England.
