Shubman Gill continued his remarkable form on Day 4 of the Edgbaston Test against England, propelling India to a commanding position. Gill's outstanding performance, featuring a century (161) in the second innings, complemented his double century (269) from the first innings. India declared their second innings at 427/6, setting England a formidable target of 608 runs.

Gill's twin performances in the match have etched his name in the record books. He became only the second Indian, after Sunil Gavaskar, and ninth overall to score a double century and a century in the same Test match. Gill also surpassed Virat Kohli's record for the most runs by an Indian captain in a Test match. By scoring 430 runs in the match, Gill broke a 54-year-old record and now holds the second-highest aggregate in a Test match, only behind Graham Gooch's 456 against India at Lord's in 1990. He also became the first player to score a double century and 150 in the same match.

India's batting performance on Day 4 was characterized by crucial partnerships. Gill and Rishabh Pant combined for a 110-run partnership, while Gill and Ravindra Jadeja added 68 runs. Pant contributed a quickfire 65, and Jadeja remained unbeaten on 69. KL Rahul also chipped in with a half-century. These contributions helped India build a substantial lead and put England under immense pressure.

England's response to the imposing target began poorly, as they were reduced to 72/3 at stumps. Akash Deep and Mohammed Siraj struck early blows, dismissing key English batsmen. Akash Deep took two wickets, while Siraj accounted for one. Ollie Pope (24) and Harry Brook (15) were at the crease at the close of play, but England still require a further 536 runs to win.

India now stands on the verge of a historic victory at Edgbaston, where they have never won a Test match before. With England needing to achieve a record-breaking chase, India needs seven wickets to win the match and level the series. However, the weather forecast for the final day indicates a possibility of rain, which could potentially affect India's chances.
