The highly anticipated white-ball series between India and Bangladesh, originally scheduled for August 2025, has been postponed to September 2026. The decision was jointly made by the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) and the Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB). The series will consist of three One Day Internationals (ODIs) and three Twenty20 Internationals (T20Is).

Reasons for Postponement

The official reason cited by the BCCI and BCB is to accommodate international cricketing commitments and ensure scheduling convenience for both teams. The BCCI stated that the decision was reached after discussions between the two boards.

However, some reports suggest that security concerns in Bangladesh may have also contributed to the postponement. Political relations between India and Bangladesh have reportedly become strained following political upheaval in Bangladesh.

Statements from the Boards

The BCCI officially announced the postponement in a statement, saying that both boards mutually agreed to defer the series. The BCB also released a statement expressing that they look forward to welcoming India in September 2026 for the series and that revised dates and fixtures would be announced in due course.

Impact and Future Plans

The postponement is a setback to the Indian team's preparations for the T20 World Cup 2026, which is scheduled to be held in India and Sri Lanka in February. With the Bangladesh tour postponed, India's next T20I assignment is expected to be against Australia in October-November 2025 in a five-match away series.

The BCB and BCCI are expected to announce the revised schedule and specific dates for the series in September 2026 at a later date. The series is still highly anticipated, and both boards are committed to ensuring its successful execution in 2026.
