Mexico has once again asserted its dominance in CONCACAF, securing a record-extending 10th Gold Cup title with a thrilling 2-1 victory over the United States. The final, held at NRG Stadium in Houston, Texas, saw El Tri rally from an early deficit to claim the regional crown.

The United States started strong, with Chris Richards, a former FC Dallas center back, heading in a free kick from Vancouver Whitecaps FC midfielder Sebastian Berhalter in the fourth minute. However, Mexico responded with sustained pressure. In the 27th minute, Raúl Jiménez leveled the score with a powerful strike past New York City FC goalkeeper Matt Freese. Jiménez celebrated with a tribute to his former teammate, Diogo Jota.

The decisive moment came in the 78th minute when Edson Álvarez headed home a redirected free kick. The goal was initially ruled offside but was then awarded after Video Review. Álvarez's effort secured Mexico'sback-to-back Gold Cup championship.

Matt Freese, the 26-year-old goalkeeper for NYCFC, made six saves in the match. Despite the loss, his performance throughout the tournament likely solidified his spot on the World Cup squad. Max Arfsten also earned a rating of 7.5 for his performance. Chris Richards, who scored the opening goal, received a rating of 7 for his efforts.

This victory marks Mexico's 10th Gold Cup title, further cementing their status as the most successful team in the tournament's history. The win also signifies a triumphant return to form for El Tri, who were able to field the majority of their best players. Conversely, the USMNT's "B Team" saw its summer run come to an end.
