Following India's historic Test victory over England at Edgbaston, Virat Kohli's social media activity has stirred considerable discussion within the cricket community. Kohli, who retired from Test cricket in May 2025, lauded Shubman Gill and the team for their performance, prompting former England player Jonathan Trott to suggest that Kohli is missing the atmosphere of the Indian dressing room.

Kohli's social media posts during the Edgbaston Test match caught the attention of fans and analysts alike. After India's remarkable 336-run victory, which leveled the five-match series 1-1, Kohli took to X (formerly Twitter) to express his admiration for the team's fearless approach. He specifically praised Shubman Gill's leadership, as well as the impactful performances of Mohammed Siraj and Akash Deep. "Great victory for India at Edgbaston. Fearless and kept pushing England to the wall. Brilliantly led by Shubman with the bat and in the field, and impactful performances from everyone. Special mention to Siraj and Akash for the way they bowled on this pitch," Kohli posted.

Jonathan Trott, observing Kohli's active engagement with the series, speculated that the former India captain might be longing for the camaraderie and spirit of the dressing room. Speaking on the Sony Sports Network, Trott said, "Coming back to Virat Kohli's tweet, no wonder he misses that dressing room feeling. I sometimes wonder how quickly that feeling comes back after you give up the game. Doesn't he live in St. John's Wood or nearby? Can he not be persuaded to come back?". Trott even pondered whether Kohli might consider reversing his Test retirement, suggesting he could slot back into the middle order, possibly at No. 3 or No. 5. "I'm sure he would have liked No. 5 or 3," Trott noted, acknowledging Shubman Gill's strong performance at No. 4.

Kohli's retirement from Test cricket on May 12, 2025, marked the end of an era. He retired after playing 123 matches. KL Rahul had earlier admitted that the Indian dressing room would feel strange without Kohli and Rohit Sharma, who also retired from Test cricket. Rahul acknowledged the significant impact and experience that both players brought to the team.

Despite his retirement, Kohli's recent social media activity indicates a continued interest in and support for the Indian team. His praise for Shubman Gill and the team's performance at Edgbaston reflects his passion for the game and his connection with his former teammates. Whether Kohli will consider a return to Test cricket remains to be seen, but Trott's comments have undoubtedly added fuel to the speculation among fans and cricket enthusiasts.
