Anthony Elanga has officially completed his move from Nottingham Forest to Newcastle United. The 23-year-old Swedish international joins the Magpies on a long-term deal after a successful season with Forest, where he played a crucial role in their impressive 2024/25 Premier League campaign. Elanga's contributions of six goals and 11 assists were instrumental in securing European qualification for Forest, marking their highest league finish in 30 years.

Newcastle United will pay a fixed fee of £52 million for Elanga, with the potential for an additional £3 million in performance-related add-ons, bringing the total value of the deal to a potential £55 million. As part of the agreement between Manchester United and Nottingham Forest when Elanga moved to the Midlands in 2023, Manchester United is set to receive between £6 million and £8 million from the transfer due to a sell-on clause.

Elanga, who has surpassed 100 Premier League appearances, is Newcastle's second signing of the summer transfer window, following the arrival of winger Antonio Cordero from Malaga. Cordero, however, is expected to be loaned out for further development.

Newcastle United Head Coach Eddie Howe expressed his delight in securing Elanga, stating, "I'm delighted to welcome Anthony to Newcastle United. He has been a key target for us, so I'm delighted to secure him at this early part of pre-season". Howe further added, "He is an exciting talent with attributes that make him a unique attacking threat. His pace, energy, and ability to create and score goals will strengthen us and complement the way we want to play". He also noted Elanga's eagerness to develop and achieve success with Newcastle.

Elanga himself conveyed his excitement about joining Newcastle, saying, "I'm excited, I'm really happy, but most importantly, I'm ready. I'm ready to put on this black and white top to really fight for this team and give everything for the passionate fanbase that lives and breathes football". He acknowledged his positive experience at Nottingham Forest, stating, "I had an amazing two years at Nottingham Forest, they really helped me to become the player I am today, but I'm really happy to be here now". Elanga also expressed his enthusiasm for the club's direction, noting, "The club won a trophy last season and are building something unique, something special that I really want to be part of".

Elanga's arrival at St James' Park could potentially form one of the most dynamic front three partnerships in the Premier League, with fellow Swede Alexander Isak and Anthony Gordon. Howe may look to utilize Elanga's pace, creativity, and work rate alongside Isak and Gordon to create a potent attacking force capable of challenging any defense.

Before joining Nottingham Forest, Elanga progressed through Manchester United's youth system, making his senior debut in May 2021 and scoring his first Premier League goal shortly after. He has also become a regular member of the Swedish national team, scoring four goals in 22 appearances. His most recent international appearance was in Sweden's 2-0 victory over Hungary last month, where he played the entire match.

Only Mohamed Salah and Newcastle’s Jacob Murphy registered more assists in the Premier League than Elanga last season.
