Sweden delivered a dominant performance against Germany in their Euro 2025 Group C clash, securing a 4-1 victory and finishing the group stage with a perfect record. The match, however, was heavily influenced by a controversial handball incident involving German defender Carlotta Wamser.

The game started with Germany taking an early lead in the seventh minute, Jule Brand setting the tone. However, Sweden quickly responded, with Stina Blackstenius equalizing just five minutes later. Sweden then took the lead through a slightly fortunate goal from fullback Smilla Holmberg in the 25th minute, marking her first international goal on her third appearance.

The turning point arrived in the 32nd minute when Wamser was sent off after a deliberate handball inside the penalty area. Fridolina Rolfo confidently converted the resulting penalty, marking her 100th cap and extending Sweden's lead. The red card and penalty not only gave Sweden a significant advantage but also left Germany with a mountain to climb.

With a player down, Germany struggled to contain Sweden's attacking prowess. Substitute Lina Hurtig added a fourth goal in the 80th minute, further solidifying Sweden's win. The 4-1 scoreline reflected Sweden's dominance, especially after Wamser's dismissal.

Sweden's victory ensured they finished top of Group C with the maximum of nine points. As group winners, they will now face the runners-up from Group D in the quarter-finals, which could be France, England, Netherlands or Wales. Despite the loss, Germany also advanced to the quarter-finals as runners-up in Group C. They are set to face the winners of Group D.

The match was a mix of brilliance and misfortune, with Sweden capitalizing on Germany's mistakes to secure a resounding win. While Germany showed promise early on, Wamser's handball proved costly, ultimately derailing their chances of topping the group. The result also marked Germany's largest ever defeat at a Euros.
