England's journey in the UEFA Women's Euro 2025 continues as they aim to defend their title. Their next match is against Wales on July 13, 2025, with an 8pm kick-off in St. Gallen. This is the final game of Group D.

Euro 2025 Qualifying and Format

The Women's Euro 2025 features 16 teams, with Switzerland automatically qualifying as the host country. The qualifying format was changed to mirror the UEFA Nations League, dividing teams into three leagues (A, B, and C). England's qualification wasn't straightforward, as they finished second in their group behind France.

The top two teams in each League A group qualified directly for the final tournament. The remaining seven spots were decided through two rounds of play-offs. Promotion and relegation between the leagues will occur before the next UEFA Women's Nations League but do not affect Euro 2025 play-off qualification.

The group stage involves four groups of four teams, with each team playing each other once in a round-robin format. The top two teams from each group advance to the quarter-finals.

England's Group D and Potential Opponents

England is in Group D along with France, the Netherlands, and Wales. This is considered a challenging group. After a 2-1 defeat to France, England bounced back with a 4-0 victory against the Netherlands.

To reach the quarter-finals, England needs to beat Wales. They can also qualify with a draw, provided the Netherlands doesn't beat France. Even a loss could see them through if the Netherlands also loses to France, and England's loss is by less than four goals.

If England finishes first in Group D, they will play the runner-up from Group C in the quarter-finals. Group C consists of Germany, Poland, Denmark, and Sweden. If England finishes second, they will face the winner of Group C. A potential advantage of finishing as runners-up is that England would be on the opposite side of the draw from Spain until the final.

Knockout Stage and Route to the Final

The knockout stage follows a standard tournament format. The winner of Group A plays the runner-up of Group B, and the winner of Group C plays the runner-up of Group D, and vice versa.

If England wins Group D:

  • Quarter-final: July 19 vs. Runner-up of Group C (Basel)
  • Semi-final: July 23 vs. Winner of QF4 vs Winner QF2 (Zurich)

If England finishes second in Group D:

  • Quarter-final: July 17 vs. Winner of Group C (Zurich)
  • Semi-final: July 22 vs. Winner of QF3 vs Winner QF1 (Geneva)

The Euro 2025 final is on July 27 in Basel.

Additional Information

The tournament aims to be environmentally friendly, embracing circular economy models to minimize waste. Social responsibility initiatives are planned regarding human rights, inclusion, and equality.
