Djordje Petrovic is on the verge of finalizing a £25 million move from Chelsea to Bournemouth, with a medical scheduled for this week. The Serbian goalkeeper is expected to sign a long-term contract after agreeing to personal terms with the Cherries.

Petrovic's move to Bournemouth comes as he seeks regular first-team football, which he found limited at Stamford Bridge. He made it clear to Chelsea that he was keen to join Bournemouth. Several clubs showed interest in Petrovic, including AS Monaco and Aston Villa, but Bournemouth moved swiftly to finalize terms, offering him the chance to establish himself in the Premier League.

Chelsea are planning to go into the new season with Robert Sanchez and Filip Jorgensen as their two main goalkeepers, and have been open to moving Petrovic on following a season-long loan at sister club Strasbourg.

Petrovic spent the 2024–25 season on loan at Strasbourg, Chelsea's sister club in Ligue 1, where he played a vital role in their seventh-place finish, securing a UEFA Conference League spot. He featured in 31 matches for the French side and his standout displays earned him the club's Supporters' Player of the Season award.

Bournemouth had been exploring options for a new No.1 after losing Kepa Arrizabalaga, who was their first-choice goalkeeper last season but returned to Chelsea at the end of his loan deal and subsequently joined Arsenal. Petrovic is heading to the south coast to replace Arrizabalaga.

For Chelsea, the deal represents a strategic move aligned with their broader 2025/26 transfer policy. The funds generated are expected to contribute to future signings, part of a calculated effort to reshape the squad. Chelsea paid £14m for the 25-year-old in 2023 and will be banking a profit. Chelsea had honored a gentleman's agreement allowing Petrovic to leave if a club met the £25 million asking price.
