Ivan Prosvetov is once again aiming to solidify his place in the NHL, this time with the Calgary Flames. The 26-year-old Russian goaltender signed a one-year, $950,000 contract with the Flames on Tuesday, July 1, 2025, marking a fresh opportunity to showcase his talent in North America's top hockey league.

Prosvetov's journey to the NHL has been marked by stints with the Arizona Coyotes and Colorado Avalanche. Drafted by the Coyotes in the fourth round (114th overall) of the 2018 NHL Entry Draft, the 6'5" netminder has accumulated 24 games of NHL experience between 2020 and 2024, recording an .881 save percentage and a 3.70 goals-against average. He made his NHL debut on March 31, 2021, playing in relief against the Colorado Avalanche.

Prior to his NHL experiences, Prosvetov honed his skills in North America, playing for the Minnesota Magicians in the North American Hockey League (NAHL) and the Youngstown Phantoms in the United States Hockey League (USHL). His strong performance in the USHL led to his selection for the 2018 CHL/NHL Top Prospects Game.

In the 2024-25 season, Prosvetov played for CSKA Moscow in the KHL, where he posted a .920 save percentage, a 2.32 goals-against average, and four shutouts in 38 games, with a 20-16-2 record. His performance earned him KHL Goalie of the Month honors in November. He also appeared in five playoff games for CSKA Moscow, recording a .918 save percentage and a 2.90 goals-against average.

With the Calgary Flames, Prosvetov is expected to compete for the backup goaltender position behind Dustin Wolf. He will likely face competition from Devin Cooley, making for an intriguing battle during training camp.

Prosvetov's one-way contract indicates the Flames' commitment to providing him with a genuine opportunity to prove himself at the NHL level. His size, experience, and recent success in the KHL could make him a valuable asset to the team. This new chapter with the Flames represents another push for Prosvetov to establish himself as a reliable NHL goaltender.
