Germany's coach, Christian Wück, has cautioned his players about the arduous challenge they face against Spain in the Euro 2025 semifinal. The match, set to take place in Zurich this Wednesday, will require the German team to "do a lot of chasing" and "suffer" to overcome the Spanish side, who are considered clear favorites.

Spain enters the contest with a dominant record, having won all four of their matches in Switzerland while scoring an impressive 16 goals. In contrast, Germany experienced a significant setback in the group stage, suffering a 4-1 defeat against Sweden. They also had a demanding quarterfinal match against France, which they ultimately won on penalties after Kathrin Hendrich was sent off early in the game.

Wück acknowledges Spain's superior ball-passing ability and expects them to control possession. However, he remains confident in Germany's ability to capitalize on opportunities and exploit Spain's weaknesses. "We have to show our strengths in attack, which we couldn't really do against France, when we have the ball," Wück stated. He emphasized the importance of maintaining their philosophy and principles as a German team, focusing on winning duels and actively regaining possession.

Adding to Germany's difficulties, they will be without three key players for the semifinal clash. Kathrin Hendrich's red card suspension and Sarai Linder's ankle injury sustained against France have depleted their defensive resources. Giulia Gwinn is also out with a knee injury. Linder sustained a capsular ligament injury to her left ankle in a tussle during the match against France. She attempted to continue playing with a bandage but was eventually forced to leave the game.

The German team also faces a disadvantage in terms of rest, as Spain had an extra day to recover after defeating Switzerland 2-0. Germany's grueling match against France, which went into extra time after Hendrich's sending off in the 13th minute, demanded tremendous physical effort from the players. Despite playing with ten players for most of the game, they displayed remarkable resilience and determination. Rebecca Knaak highlighted the team's fighting spirit, passion, desire, and unity as crucial values that they must embody against Spain.

Despite the challenges, Germany aims to replicate the heroic performance against France, demonstrating the same level of commitment and teamwork. The eight-time European champions recognize the magnitude of the task against Spain, but they are determined to fight for a place in the Euro 2025 final.
