Sarina Wiegman has lauded Michelle Agyemang as "something special" after the 19-year-old's stellar performances at Euro 2025, where she has twice rescued England from the brink of elimination. Agyemang's contributions have been crucial in securing the Lionesses' place in the final.

In the semi-final against Italy, Agyemang once again proved to be a game-changer. After Italy took the lead through Barbara Bonansea, Agyemang came off the bench to score a late equalizer, sending the game into extra time. This was reminiscent of her quarter-final heroics against Sweden, where she also scored a crucial goal. In the end, England won 2-1, with Chloe Kelly scoring the decisive goal in extra time.

Wiegman highlighted Agyemang's maturity and understanding of the game, noting that she quickly grasps instructions and is a constant threat in the 18-yard box. The England manager also praised Agyemang's ability to hold the ball up and her intentional shot that hit the crossbar against Italy. "She's only 19-years-old, she's very mature, she knows exactly what she has to do," Wiegman said. "When you talk about little things that she picks up straight away, because she's not only in the 18-yard box very dangerous but when we have to go to her as a target player, she keeps the ball really well too".

Agyemang's journey to the senior squad has been rapid. Just four years ago, she was a ball girl at Wembley for Wiegman's first game in charge of England. "Four years ago, I was just a kid, just throwing the ball to some of these girls and now I am here playing with them," Agyemang said. "A great opportunity and I am so happy I am here”. She made her senior debut in April 2025, scoring just 41 seconds after coming on as a substitute against Belgium. Since then, she has scored three goals in her first four appearances for England.

Despite her impact, Wiegman is not feeling pressured to give Agyemang more playing time than she has already received. Agyemang herself remains grounded, focusing on her role in the team and expressing gratitude for the opportunity. "To be doing this at this level and to be helping out this team is more than I could have wished for, so I am so grateful to be here," she said.

Agyemang's early career saw her rise through the ranks at Arsenal, where she has been since the age of six. She made her senior debut for Arsenal in November 2022 at age 16. She also gained experience on loan spells at Watford and Brighton & Hove Albion. At national level, Agyemang has represented England at various youth levels, scoring goals consistently.

While some have suggested that Agyemang should start for England, she is still developing her all-around game. She is aware of her areas for improvement but her selflessness and determination have made her a valuable asset to the team.

As England prepares for the Euro 2025 final, Michelle Agyemang's contributions have been vital to the Lionesses' success. With Wiegman's guidance and Agyemang's talent, the future looks bright for the young forward.
