Marcus Rashford has officially joined Barcelona on a season-long loan from Manchester United. The 27-year-old English forward expressed his gratitude to Manchester United, acknowledging the significant role the club has played in his life and career.

Rashford's move to the La Liga champions includes an option for Barcelona to buy him at the end of the 2025-26 season. According to media reports, the Spanish club will cover Rashford's wages for the season, with the option to buy set at approximately 30 million euros ($35.25 million). He will wear the number 14 shirt for Barcelona.

"I don't have anything bad to say as it has been an important part not just of my career but my life, so I was grateful for the opportunity," Rashford stated, reflecting on his time at Manchester United. He added, "But like life, not everything goes as simple as you thought, and this is my next chapter, and I'm fully focused on improving myself and helping the team win trophies".

Rashford's career at Manchester United began at the age of seven when he joined the club's pre-academy program. He made his first-team debut in 2016, scoring twice against Midtjylland in the Europa League. He also scored two goals in his Premier League debut against Arsenal. Throughout his time with the Red Devils, Rashford made 426 appearances, scored 138 goals, and won five major trophies, including two FA Cups, two League Cups, and the Europa League.

However, in recent years, Rashford's form dipped, and he fell out of favor. He spent the second half of last season on loan at Aston Villa, where he made 17 appearances. A hamstring injury interrupted his season in April, causing him to miss the final four games.

Barcelona's interest in Rashford arose after they were unsuccessful in signing Nico Williams from Athletic Bilbao. The club had been looking to strengthen their left-wing options. Barcelona coach Hansi Flick reportedly spoke with Rashford and approved the move.

Rashford expressed his excitement about joining Barcelona, stating, "Very excited. I think it's a club where people's dreams come true. They win big prizes. And what the club stands for really means a lot to me as well. So it feels like I am at home". He also noted the positive conversations he had with coach Hansi Flick as a factor in his decision. "What he did last season was terrific," Rashford said of Flick. "To lead such a young team to a very successful season and come back to preseason and still want to do more, it shows me everything I thought I knew about the club, and it's everything I wished".

Barcelona's statement highlighted Rashford's versatility and skill: "Rashford can play anywhere in attack. Right-footed, he can take players on and is an excellent finisher, talents he can now show in a Barca shirt".

Despite Barcelona's ongoing financial issues, the club is confident that they will be able to register Rashford in time for the new season.

Rashford's arrival is expected to bolster Barcelona's attack, which already includes players like Lamine Yamal, Raphinha, and Robert Lewandowski. Barcelona depended on Lamine Yamal, Raphinha and Lewandowski in 2024-25 season. The club hopes he will help them retain their La Liga title and compete for major European honors.
