The fourth day of the Test match between India and England at Old Trafford in Manchester saw England extend their dominance, putting India on the back foot. England ended the day with a score of 544/7, establishing a substantial lead of 186 runs.

Joe Root's magnificent innings of 150 was a highlight, solidifying his position as the second-highest run-scorer in Test cricket history. Root formed a formidable 142-run partnership with Ben Stokes, further compounding India's struggles. Stokes, after retiring hurt due to cramping, returned to the crease and displayed resilience to remain undefeated alongside Liam Dawson.

India's bowlers toiled hard throughout the day but struggled to contain England's batting lineup. The Indian team's composition included Shubman Gill (Captain), Yashasvi Jaiswal, KL Rahul, Sai Sudharsan, Rishabh Pant, Ravindra Jadeja, Washington Sundar, Shardul Thakur, Anshul Kamboj, Jasprit Bumrah, and Mohammed Siraj. England's XI featured Ben Stokes (Captain), Zak Crawley, Ben Duckett, Ollie Pope, Joe Root, Harry Brook, Jamie Smith, Liam Dawson, Chris Woakes, Brydon Carse, and Jofra Archer.

As play progressed, England's strategic batting display on Day 3 significantly shaped the series. After building a solid foundation through openers Ben Duckett and Zak Crawley, Root took charge, leading England to a commanding position.

Looking ahead to Day 4, India's immediate goal will be to restrict England's lead to under 200 runs. The onus will be on Jasprit Bumrah and the rest of the bowling attack to take the remaining wickets quickly. For India to get back into the game, they will need to produce a stellar bowling performance and then bat extremely well.
