Carles Perez, a former Barcelona forward, was sidelined for a crucial UEFA Conference League qualification match with his Greek club, Aris Thessaloniki, due to an unusual dog bite incident. The 27-year-old, currently on loan from Celta Vigo, was expected to play a key role in the match against Azerbaijani side Araz-Naxçıvan.

The incident occurred two days before the game when Perez was walking his dog. According to reports, while trying to separate his dog from another dog, Perez suffered a bite on the inside of his leg. In an Instagram post, Perez described the incident as "minor and unexpected".

The resulting wound required stitches, which, according to Perez, prevented him from being in optimal condition to compete. He expressed his regret for not being able to play. While some reports indicated the injury was to his genitals and required hospitalization, Perez stated he was recovering at home and anticipated rejoining the team in a few days.

Aris manager Marinos Ouzounidis confirmed that Perez would have been in the starting lineup for the match. Despite Perez's absence, Aris managed a 2-2 draw against Araz-Naxçıvan, securing a 4-3 aggregate victory and advancing in the competition. Ouzounidis acknowledged the unfortunate situation but emphasized the need to focus on alternative solutions and the available players.

Perez's career began in Barcelona's youth system, and he made his La Liga debut with the club in 2019. He later transferred to Roma and then Celta Vigo.

In other Barcelona news, goalkeeper Marc-André ter Stegen recently underwent successful back surgery and is expected to be sidelined for approximately three months. Additionally, Ansu Fati, another former Barcelona player, has joined AS Monaco on a season-long loan with an option to buy.
