Rasmus Andersson, the Calgary Flames' defenseman, is drawing significant trade interest from several contending teams as the NHL offseason progresses. With one year remaining on his contract, the 28-year-old Swede has become a prominent name in trade discussions.

Several teams are reportedly vying for Andersson's services, including the Dallas Stars, Vegas Golden Knights, and Toronto Maple Leafs. The Los Angeles Kings were also interested but talks didn't progress after Andersson declined to waive his no-trade clause. Andersson's current contract carries a $4.55 million annual cap hit. His trade value is considered high due to his prime age, team-friendly contract, top-pairing experience, and versatility.

The Dallas Stars are keen on acquiring Andersson to bolster their blue line for a playoff push. To make room for Andersson's cap hit, Dallas might need to move contracts like those of Ilya Lyubushkin or Matt Dumba. A potential trade could involve the Flames acquiring top prospect Mavrik Bourque or defenseman Lian Bichsel from the Stars.

The Vegas Golden Knights are another strong contender, with Andersson's physical style and leadership aligning well with their team identity. Vegas might offer promising young defensemen like Kaedan Korczak or Lukas Cormier in return. However, the Golden Knights would need to clear cap space before the start of the 2025-26 season. Pierre LeBrun of The Athletic reported that Vegas is Andersson's preferred destination, citing the team's consistent contention for the Stanley Cup, a low-pressure media market, passionate fan support, and Nevada's lack of state income tax.

The Toronto Maple Leafs, led by General Manager Brad Treliving, who drafted Andersson in 2015, are also a team to watch. A reunion with Chris Tanev could provide stability to the Leafs' defense. Nick Robertson could be part of a trade package, along with a high draft pick.

The Carolina Hurricanes were also mentioned as a possible destination but, with the recent loss of Brent Burns and ample cap space, they can add a top-four defenseman. While it's unlikely the Hurricanes would move Alexander Nikishin, his name would be the one to ask for.

While trade rumors continue, Flames' management downplays the likelihood of a deal. General Manager Craig Conroy has stated that Andersson is happy in Calgary. However, external speculation persists, with some reports suggesting Andersson would prefer a move to Vegas, particularly if an extension is part of the deal.
