The Indiana Fever are navigating a complex situation as they continue their season without star guard Caitlin Clark, who is sidelined with a right groin injury. Clark, who was injured on July 15 in a win against the Connecticut Sun, has no firm return timeline and will miss her ninth consecutive game on Thursday against the Phoenix Mercury. This marks the third soft tissue injury of the season for Clark, who previously missed time due to a left quad strain and a separate left groin injury.

While the Fever organization prioritizes Clark's long-term health and well-being, the team is also focused on maintaining its momentum in a competitive WNBA landscape. Coach Stephanie White emphasized a cautious approach to Clark's recovery, stating that the team is taking it "one day at a time" and "slow rolling it" to ensure she returns to 100%. White also noted that Clark is undergoing rehab and will gradually reintegrate into basketball activities.

Despite Clark's absence, the Fever have shown resilience, even achieving a five-game winning streak prior to their recent loss to the Los Angeles Sparks. This places them in contention for a playoff spot, currently standing fifth in the league. The top eight teams will make the WNBA playoffs, with the first four securing home-court advantage in the first round.

According to Fever reporter Chloe Peterson, Clark has been running at full speed but hasn't yet returned to practice. She participates in warm-up activities before games but works separately with a trainer for rehab and recovery. ESPN's Holly Rowe reported that Clark has been doing full-court running for several days but is not yet engaged in full basketball activities.

The Fever's ability to remain competitive without Clark highlights the team's depth and adaptability. In Clark's absence, other players have stepped up, contributing to the team's success. The team won the WNBA Commissioner's Cup against the Minnesota Lynx 74-59 despite Clark being out with a groin injury.

The Indiana Fever announced Stephanie White as their new head coach on November 1, 2024. The Fever finished 6th in the 2024 regular season and made the playoffs for the first time since 2016.

The Fever's schedule includes a mix of home and away games, with several nationally televised appearances. All games are broadcast on the radio. The team is aiming to solidify its position in the standings and secure a playoff berth.
