Real Betis midfielder Isco Alarcon has suffered a fractured fibula during a pre-season friendly against Malaga. The injury occurred on Saturday, August 9th, during the match against his former club.

Real Betis confirmed that Isco sustained "a new, non-displaced fracture in the middle third of his left fibula". While the injury is in the same area as one he suffered in May 2024, the club has stated that it is a "new traumatic injury that is unrelated to the previous process". Isco sustained a blow to his left ankle during the game. Following the match, he was seen leaving the stadium on crutches with his left foot heavily bandaged.

Isco is expected to be sidelined for around three months and will undergo conservative treatment. The club has stated that his return will depend on the progress of his condition. This injury is a significant blow for Real Betis as the new La Liga season approaches. Isco's absence will be a challenge for the team. Last season, he played in 33 matches, scoring 12 goals and providing 11 assists.

Real Betis may consider signing a replacement for Isco. The club is reportedly still working to re-sign Manchester United winger Antony on loan and could also attempt to bring Dani Ceballos back from Real Madrid.

This is the second year in a row that Isco has suffered a serious injury ahead of the La Liga season. In May 2024, he suffered a broken leg which ended his hopes of playing for Spain at Euro 2024. After complications, he underwent two surgeries and didn't return to action until January 2025.

Real Betis had a busy pre-season schedule, including a training camp in Portugal and friendlies against Cordoba CF, Coventry City, and Sunderland AFC. A friendly match against Como 1907 turned chaotic with a mass brawl between the players.
