Montreal Canadiens forward Patrik Laine is expected to be sidelined for two to three months with a sprained left knee. Montreal traded defenseman Jordan Harris and a 2026 second-round pick to acquire Laine while taking on his $8.7 million salary cap hit for two seasons. In Laine's absence, players like Joshua Roy, Oliver Kapanen, and Emil Heineman will have the opportunity to secure a position within the team's top six.
Kadri's Olympic Disappointment
Nazem Kadri, a forward for the Calgary Flames, has voiced his frustration after not being invited to Hockey Canada's orientation camp for the 2026 Winter Olympics. Kadri believes he deserves a chance to represent Canada, especially after a strong season where he scored 35 goals and 67 points.
Kadri expressed his disappointment in an interview with The Athletic, stating, "I feel like I deserve a chance. I think over the last few seasons I've certainly proven that with my statistics and the winning pedigree. I think it speaks for itself". The 34-year-old sees the 2026 Olympics as potentially his last opportunity to play for Canada on the international stage. He last represented Canada at the 2014 World Championship.
