With the NHL free agency period underway, the Washington Capitals have already addressed some needs, but a few key unrestricted free agents (UFAs) remain on the market that could further bolster their roster. Here are three players the Capitals should consider pursuing:

1. Marcus Johansson (Minnesota Wild)

Why shouldn't the Capitals bring back Marcus Johansson for a third stint? He's always been a good fit in Washington. While he's a veteran in the later stages of his career, he still produced at a decent rate for the Minnesota Wild, scoring 11 goals and 34 points in 72 games. Johansson could slot in on the third or fourth line on a cheap deal, offering a known commodity. It's a low-risk addition that could provide valuable depth and versatility.

2. Yanni Gourde

Yanni Gourde embodies the Capitals' desired hard-hitting style. With Lars Eller's departure in the offseason, there's a need for a third-line center, and Gourde fits the bill. He provides offense, solid two-way play, and a proven winning pedigree. Gourde would be another strong addition to highlight the 2025 offseason.

3. Taylor Hall

Taylor Hall demonstrated that he can still play at a high level and be impactful. While he may not be the player he once was, he showcased his scoring ability after being acquired by the Carolina Hurricanes. If Carolina doesn't re-sign him, Washington could look to sign him to a shorter deal while their prospects develop in the NHL. Hall could occupy a spot on the third line and the second power-play unit, where he could meet expectations.

Securing these remaining UFAs could provide the Capitals with valuable depth, experience, and scoring touch as they aim to improve upon their recent performance and solidify their position as a top contender in the Eastern Conference.
