The inclusion of Jasprit Bumrah in India's squad for the upcoming Asia Cup 2025 has been a major talking point, with chief selector Ajit Agarkar addressing concerns surrounding the pacer's workload management and availability. Amidst debates about whether Bumrah is being selectively rested, Agarkar has emphasized the importance of ensuring his presence for crucial matches and major tournaments.

Bumrah's recent appearances have been under scrutiny, particularly his participation in only three of the five Tests against England. While he showcased his prowess by taking 14 wickets, including two 5-wicket hauls, questions arose about his absence in the other two Tests. This sparked criticism from former cricketers who felt he was "picking and choosing" matches.

Agarkar addressed these concerns during the squad announcement for the Asia Cup 2025. He clarified that there isn't a rigid, pre-set plan dictating Bumrah's workload. Instead, the team management, physios, and concerned individuals are continuously in touch to monitor his physical condition. The primary goal is to have Bumrah available for significant games, including World Cups, Champions Trophies, and major series against formidable opponents like England and Australia.

Agarkar acknowledged Bumrah's injury history over the past few years, which has led to a more cautious approach to managing his workload. He highlighted Bumrah's unique skillset and the necessity of ensuring his availability for important assignments. This approach involves constant monitoring of Bumrah's physical state and making decisions based on his well-being and the team's requirements.

Prior to the squad announcement, reports indicated that Bumrah had communicated his availability for the Asia Cup to the selection committee. This signaled his willingness to participate in the continental tournament and contribute to India's campaign.

Alongside Bumrah, the Asia Cup squad includes Arshdeep Singh and Harshit Rana as specialist fast bowlers, with Hardik Pandya and Shivam Dube providing further pace-bowling options as all-rounders. The spin department features Varun Chakaravarthy, Kuldeep Yadav, and Axar Patel. Shubman Gill has been named the vice-captain for the tournament.

Bumrah's inclusion in the Asia Cup squad marks his return to the T20I format for the first time since the 2024 T20 World Cup final. His presence is expected to bolster India's pace attack and provide crucial experience and skill to the team.

The Asia Cup 2025 is scheduled to be held in the UAE from September 9 to 28. India, the defending champions, are placed in Group A alongside Pakistan, Oman, and the UAE. The tournament will be played in the T20 format.
