Arsenal have reportedly reignited their interest in Crystal Palace's Eberechi Eze following a knee injury sustained by Kai Havertz. The extent of Havertz's injury is still being assessed, but there are concerns that he could be sidelined for an extended period. Havertz was absent from an open training session at the Emirates Stadium on Wednesday, raising fears of a serious setback.

This injury leaves Viktor Gyökeres as the only fit striker at the club, potentially forcing Arsenal to dip back into the transfer market before the September 1st deadline. Mikel Arteta had previously indicated that Arsenal could still be active in the market this month, even before the news of Havertz's injury.

Eze, who has also been linked with Tottenham Hotspur, is now reportedly a key target for the Gunners. Sky Sports reports that Arsenal are close to agreeing a deal with Crystal Palace for the player. Tottenham believe Eze prefers a move to Arsenal and have begun to explore other options.

Havertz had only recently returned to full fitness after recovering from a hamstring injury that kept him out for 18 matches between February and April. His absence was keenly felt, with midfielder Mikel Merino filling in as a makeshift No. 9. While Arteta has stated that Havertz and Gyökeres can play together, Havertz's versatility is valued, and his potential absence would limit Arsenal's options.

Arsenal manager Mikel Arteta is expected to provide an update on Havertz's injury at a press conference on Friday, ahead of their Premier League match against Leeds United. In the meantime, the club are evaluating their options in the transfer market, with Eze emerging as a primary target to bolster their attacking resources.

Arsenal have already added Noni Madueke and Viktor Gyokeres to their squad this summer, but Havertz's injury may force them to further reinforce their attack. The Gunners are also hoping to move on a number of fringe players before the transfer window closes.

The potential signing of Eze would provide Arsenal with another creative and attacking option. The 27-year-old has been a key player for Crystal Palace, and his arrival would add depth and quality to Arsenal's squad.
