In the wake of Alexander Isak's public accusations that Newcastle United broke promises amid strong interest from Liverpool, Newcastle manager Eddie Howe has responded to the claims. The Newcastle manager maintains that he wants Isak to be part of the squad this season. However, Howe has also hinted that a move to Liverpool could be on the cards.

Isak's discontent became public recently, when he stated on social media that the relationship between him and the club "can't continue" due to "broken promises". The Swedish striker has been linked with a move to Liverpool, and it's understood that a £110 million bid was rejected by Newcastle earlier in the summer. Isak's statement has been interpreted as a clear attempt to force a transfer to Anfield.

Newcastle responded to Isak's outburst with a statement expressing their disappointment. The club clarified that no commitment had ever been made by any official that Isak would be allowed to leave this summer. Newcastle insisted that they want to keep their best players while also acknowledging that they are open to listening to the players' wishes.

Reports indicate that Isak's frustration stems from a contract renewal that was discussed with the club. He apparently claims he was promised a new deal with higher wages to reflect his status as a top Premier League striker, but that the agreement was never materialized.

Howe confirmed that Isak would not be part of the squad to face Liverpool on Monday. He also stated that the club has to act in the best interests of Newcastle United and that the situation "looks like it is coming to an end, or it will come to an end pretty quickly". Howe expressed his preference for such matters to be dealt with privately but acknowledged the necessity of the club's public response.

Newcastle had been trying to find a replacement for Isak, with attempts to sign Hugo Ekitike and Benjamin Sesko. Newcastle's £40m offer for Wissa was rejected by Brentford.

The situation remains tense, with reports suggesting that Isak has no desire to represent Newcastle again. However, he remains under contract with the club for another three years.
