Dream11 Steps Down: BCCI Seeks New Jersey Sponsor for Team India Before Asia Cup.

In a significant turn of events, Dream11 has reportedly exited its role as the lead jersey sponsor for the Indian cricket team. This decision comes just ahead of the Asia Cup 2025, leaving the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) to scramble for a new sponsor. The move follows the recent passage of the 'Promotion and Regulation of Online Gaming Bill, 2025,' which bans real-money gaming platforms in India.

The legislation has created an uncertain environment for Dream11, prompting their withdrawal from the sponsorship. While neither the BCCI nor Dream11 has officially announced the decision, reports indicate that the platform is unwilling to continue its multi-crore deal under the new legal framework.

Dream11 had secured a three-year deal in July 2023, committing ₹358 crore to be the lead jersey sponsor. The agreement included payments of ₹3 crore per home game and ₹1 crore for away matches. With Dream11's exit, the Indian cricket team faces the prospect of competing in the upcoming Asia Cup without a prominent sponsor on its jersey. The Asia Cup is scheduled to begin on September 9 in the UAE.

The BCCI is expected to invite fresh bids for the jersey sponsorship rights. However, it remains uncertain whether a new partner can be secured before the start of the Asia Cup. According to reports, new jerseys featuring Dream11 branding have already been printed for the Asia Cup, but they are unlikely to be used.

BCCI secretary Devajit Saikia has stated that the board will adhere to the country's laws, noting that the BCCI will follow every policy of the central government. He added that if sponsorship from online betting and gaming companies is not permissible, the board will not pursue it. Sources suggest that the BCCI may lobby to delay the presidential assent to the bill until after the Asia Cup to allow the team to play in the sponsored jersey and provide the board with more time to find a new sponsor.

Several brands have emerged as potential contenders to replace Dream11 as the team's jersey sponsor. These include the Tata Group, Reliance Jio, and Mahindra & Mahindra. The Tata Group already sponsors the IPL until 2028. Reliance Jio has a significant presence in sports through its JioCinema OTT platform. Mahindra & Mahindra is known for its strong brand trust and loyalty in both rural and urban India. Other potential contenders include FMCG giants like Pepsi and fintech platforms like Zerodha and Groww.
