The Seattle Kraken are reportedly holding onto forward Jared McCann despite interest from multiple teams. The 29-year-old has been a consistent scorer since joining the Kraken in their expansion draft.

Since joining the Kraken, McCann has consistently led the team in points and goals. In four seasons with the team, he has posted goal totals of 27, 40, 29, and 22. In 2022-23, he recorded a career-high 40 goals and 70 points, helping the Kraken reach their first playoff appearance. He followed that up with 62 and 61 points in the subsequent seasons.

Several teams have expressed interest in McCann, with the Montreal Canadiens and New Jersey Devils being the most prominent. While the Kraken have shown little interest in trading McCann, they are willing to listen to offers. It is speculated that if the Kraken struggle early in the 2025-26 season, they may consider trading McCann.

McCann's contract, with a $5 million cap hit for two more seasons, makes him an attractive asset. His ability to play both wing and center adds to his value. If paired with elite talent, he could be a consistent 40-goal scorer.

However, the Kraken's asking price for McCann is high. Any team acquiring him would likely need to offer a top prospect and a first-round pick. Some reports suggest that Kraken would want a first-round pick and a top prospect like Dawson Mercer from the Devils.

The Kraken's decision to keep McCann could impact their season. While trading him would free up roster space for younger players like Jani Nyman and Berkly Catton, it could also make the team one of the worst in the NHL. Despite adding forwards Mason Marchment and Frederik Gaudreau in the offseason, the Kraken may still need McCann's scoring to remain competitive.

Ultimately, the Kraken seem content to keep McCann unless they receive an offer they cannot refuse. If the team's playoff chances look slim later in the season, the trade talks surrounding McCann could intensify.
